چکیده

INCE THE ORIGINAL description of the clinical releS vance of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) testing for patients with vasculitis and glomerulonephritis, antibodies directed against different enzymes in granulocyte granules have been the subject of many ongoing studies.' Although the state of the art has been reviewed previously,2" new findings over the last 2 years reflect the widespread interest in this new class of autoantibodies. The Fourth International Workshop on ANCA held in Liibeck, Germany in May I992 was a clear demonstration of the recent progress in antigen identification, the development of new ANCA assays, the association of ANCA subtypes with clinico-pathologic syndromes, and the description of in vivo and in vitro models to study the pathogenic role of ANCA in vascular inflammation. In this review we summarize the present state of the art with emphasis on the most recent findings.

ANTINEUTROPHIL CYTOPLASMIC AUTOANTIBODI ES IN RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies (ANCA) were detected in patients with autoimmune and vascular diseases such as Wegener's granulomatosis, polyarteritis nodosa and systemic lupus erythematosus. Indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) technique was employed to detect these autoantibodies. By this method, two general patterns of ANCA were seen: a cytoplasmic (cANCA) and a perinuclear form ...

Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies in Patients with Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Background: Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a major cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Infection with this bacterium is known to induce the development of autoantibodies of which a few are also known to be diagnostic markers for some other diseases. Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies (ANCA's) are among those autoantibodies used in clinical setting for diagnosing systemic vasculitic sy...

Auto-antibodies in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unclassified

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease unclassified (IBDU) is considered to be an aberrant immune response with loss of tolerance to many antigens. Objective: This paper tries to address whether there is any value to test for auto-antibodies in such patients. Methods: 60 patients with inflammatory bowel disease unclassified participated in the study. Auto-antibodies to nuclear antigen, intestin...

ANTINEUTROPHIL CY TOPLASMIC AUTOANTIBODIES IN SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies (ANCA) were first described in patients with necrotizing glomerulonephritis. The original observation passed unnoticed until an association was made between ANCA and active Wegener's granulomatosis. Since then, tremendous progress has been made in elucidating the association between ANCA subtypes and clinicopathologic syndromes, and the potential p...

The role-playing autoantibodies in autoimmune thyroid diseases and their extra-thyroidal manifestations: review article

The presence of the antibodies against the main thyroid antigens, which include thyroid peroxidase (TPO) or microsomal antigen, thyroglobulin (Tg) as well as thyrotropin receptor or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Receptor (TSH-R), is a hallmark and symbol of the autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) as one of the most common autoimmune diseases (AD) around the world. The prevalence of the thyroid pe...
